Indian Railways is preparing for the simultaneous rollout of not one, but two Vande Bharat Sleeper trains, a move set to redefine long-distance semi-high-speed travel in the country.

Indian Railways Bets Big on Sleeper Revolution

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that the launch will only take place once both trains are ready. While the first rake has already completed its trials and is stationed at Delhi’s Shakur Basti depot, the second is expected to be ready by October 15, 2025. “Both the trains will be launched together. The second train is important to maintain continuity of regular services,” Vaishnaw said.

The decision to roll out the first two simultaneously is aimed at ensuring a smooth transition into daily operations once routes are finalized.

Features of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains

Unlike the popular chair car versions that serve shorter routes, the sleeper edition has been designed with long-haul comfort in mind. With a top speed of 180 kmph, these trains will stand among the fastest sleeper services ever introduced in India.

Key features include:

  • Ergonomic berths with integrated reading lights and USB charging ports
  • Modular pantries for improved catering options
  • Public announcement and real-time visual information systems
  • CCTV cameras for enhanced security
  • Special berths and toilets designed for differently-abled passengers
  • First AC coaches offering hot-water showers for added luxury

The interiors will feature digital display panels, modern design, and carefully planned layouts to improve comfort for every class of traveller.

New Chapter for Long-Distance Travel

Railway officials believe that the Vande Bharat Sleeper will not just provide speed but will also elevate the overall travel experience. By merging comfort, safety, and modern facilities with faster connectivity, Indian Railways is positioning the service as a game-changer for medium and long-distance journeys.

The simultaneous launch of the two trains will mark a symbolic and practical leap in India’s railway modernization strategy, ushering in the country’s most advanced sleeper experience yet.
