Maharashtra Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a temporary reduction in rainfall across the state over the next few days. However, light to moderate showers are expected to continue in some regions, with a fresh spell of rain likely from November 3 onward. Pune and several other parts of Maharashtra have been witnessing heavy rain this week, leading to yellow alerts and traffic disruptions.

According to Anupam Kashyapi, Former Head of the Weather Forecasting Division at IMD Pune, “Less rain is likely in the state, with more reduction expected after 24 hours for the next three to four days. However, rainfall along with thunder and lightning in Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra (including Pune) is likely to increase again from November 3 onward.” He added that the remnant of Cyclonic Storm Montha, now a well-marked low-pressure area over central Chhattisgarh, is influencing the current weather pattern.

The system had earlier intensified into a depression over the east-central Arabian Sea. As per the IMD, “The depression moved westwards at a speed of about 3 kmph and was centered around 17.9°N & 69.0°E, approximately 430 km west-southwest of Mumbai and 580 km west-northwest of Panjim.” The system was expected to continue moving westwards across the Arabian Sea during the following 36 hours.

Heavy Rain in Pune Causes Traffic Disruptions
Residents in Pune faced heavy rain on October 31 and November 1, which led to waterlogging and traffic congestion in several parts of the city during peak hours. The IMD had earlier issued a yellow alert for Pune, urging residents to stay cautious during outdoor activities.

Rainfall Forecast for Maharashtra
According to the latest Maharashtra Weather Update, barring Sangli, Solapur, and Sindhudurg—which may see thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) at isolated places on November 5—the rest of the state is likely to experience only light to moderate rainfall in the coming days.

Weather experts expect a short lull in rainfall activity until November 2, after which rain intensity may rise again due to moisture inflow and a shift in the weather system. Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, and parts of Marathwada are likely to see renewed rain activity between November 3 and November 6.

Outlook for Next Week
The IMD’s extended forecast suggests gradual improvement in weather conditions after November 6, with temperatures likely to drop slightly as skies clear. Farmers are advised to take precautions to protect standing crops from possible thunderstorm activity in isolated pockets during the first week of November.
