Vande Bharat Sleeper Trial Touches 130 kmph on Ahmedabad–Mumbai Section
The Vande Bharat Sleeper has completed another major milestone with a smooth trial run between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. The 16-coach train reached a top speed of 130 kmph during the four-hour test on 14 November, showing strong performance on its modified bogies.
Smooth Run Led by RDSO
The trial was conducted under the supervision of RDSO, which has now started deeper technical checks and COCR assessments. Officials said the Vande Bharat Sleeper performed well throughout the run. The second sleeper rake, built by BEML, also arrived in Mumbai for further trials after travelling from Ahmedabad. It has already recorded speeds up to 180 kmph on the Kota route.

What Makes the Sleeper Version Special
The sleeper Vande Bharat offers First AC, AC-2 tier and AC-3 tier coaches. The latest version comes with improved berth design, upgraded washrooms, better charging points and enhanced safety systems. Engineers say this model is among the most powerful and advanced passenger trains currently being tested.
Expected Launch Timeline
Once the final trial reports are cleared, the Railway Board will decide the official deployment routes. The Vande Bharat Sleeper is expected to begin regular passenger service by mid-2026.
