Sambhar Salt Lake, India’s largest inland salt lake, has once again become a major stopover on the Central Asian Flyway, welcoming thousands of Lesser and Greater Flamingos this season.
Seasonal Migration Peaks
Experts say the migration begins from October and continues till March, with the largest influx observed in October. This year, favourable water levels and abundant food have helped create ideal conditions for flamingos to stay longer.
Bird expert Gaurav Dadhich, who has studied the area for 12 years, noted that more than 300 bird species have been recorded in the region over the years. He estimates that about 2 to 2.5 lakh flamingos are currently present at Sambhar Lake, making this season one of the most vibrant in recent times.
