In a historic leap for Indian Railways, the indigenously developed Vande Bharat Sleeper prototype has successfully completed its high-speed trials, touching a peak speed of 180 kmph. The milestone, achieved on the Kota-Nagda section under the West Central Railway, marks a final technical hurdle cleared before the train begins transforming overnight travel in India.

With the 180 kmph trials successful, Indian Railways is expected to announce the commercial rollout in late January or early February 2026. Initial reports suggest the first service may connect Delhi to Kolkata (Howrah) or Delhi to Patna, potentially reducing travel time by up to two hours.
